The
National Portrait Gallery has bought, what is believed to be, it's first portrait of a man in
woman's clothing; an 18th century transvestite called Charles Geneviève Louis Auguste
André Timothée d'Éon de Beaumont. He was well known across all sections of society as a diplomat, soldier and spy. Read more about the portrait and it's subject on The Guardian
